Croatian-German JV in US$56,5m bid to expand Rijeka marina

Croatian company ACI-Gitone, a joint venture between local operator ACI Marinas and German boatbuilder Lürssen, has submitted an offer to expand the Porto Baroš marina in Rijeka, on Croatia’s Adriatic coast, for around HRK 363,7m (US$56,5m).

The Croatian Ministry of Sea, Transport and Infrastructure has requested offers to expand and upgrade the facility to potentially host up to 500 berths, according to local daily Novi List. Should the Croatian-German joint venture secure the contract, the marina would become the country’s largest facility to accommodate superyachts. The Croatian Ministry aims to award a licence for a period of 30 years, covering a total surface of 105,800sq m. Commenting on the planned marina project, Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Oleg Butković said that the investment could strengthen Croatia’s position as a leading destination for maritime tourism in the region.

“This is an opportunity that Rijeka, but also the entire region, can and must use,” the Minister said.
