E-Waterbus to begin production of its first electric catamaran

Polish boatbuilder Waterbus has secured finance from local venture capital firm Shape to begin production of its first electric catamaran. The new model will be available for purchase before this summer, according to senior company representatives.

The project will be carried out by the owner’s second company, E-Waterbus. The boatbuilder operates a shipyard in Augustów, in Poland’s north-eastern yacht production hub. Jerzy Bajron, president of the management board of E-Waterbus, says a growing number of lakes in Poland are now covered by the ban on motorboats which makes electric catamarans an attractive alternative to such craft.

“Electric motors completely eliminate any harmful air pollutants, and they reduce their negative impact on the environment, allowing users to spend their time in complete silence,” Bajron said, as quoted by Money.pl.

In addition to the electric catamaran, the Polish company will also offer its electric motor for individual sale. To date, E-Waterbus has collected 400.000 USD from investors to support its research and development work, and is currently readying for another financing round. The funds that will be amassed during this round will be mostly spent on marketing activities.
