Japanese group wants to invest in Marina Portorož
Slovenian tourism group Terme Čatež d.d. is planning to sell its Marina Portorož to an unnamed Japanese group with which it signed a preliminary deal that will be finalised if the agreed conditions are met by the buyer. The sale could be worth around €16m (US$19m), according to the information obtained by local daily Primorske Novice. Another Slovenian paper, Delo, claims the agreed price is lower, at €15m (US$17.8m).
Representatives of the municipality of Piran, where the facility is located, said that the procedure to sell the marina was in its final phase, and they expect to establish cooperation with the buyer soon. Located on the Adriatic coast, the marina has a berthing capacity for more than 1,000 craft. In 2018, Terme Čatež attempted to sell the facillity to local companies Adventura Holding and Glen. However, the signed contract expired in 2019, and subsequent negotiations were unsuccessful due to a disagreement over price. At the time of the failed transaction, local observers estimated the Slovenian marina to be worth more than €21m (US$24.9m).
